About the Program Supervisor
Allan Smetana
A
few years ago, I started my educational journey as a teacher/coach
in a small town in central North Dakota. I have received a Bachelors
Degree in Education as well as a Masters Degree in Educational
Administration. I also received an Educational Specialist Degree
in Education. As my journey through education continued, I moved
through the ranks as a teacher, coach, Principal, and finally
eleven years as a School Superintendent. After twenty years in
the educational field, I chose to pursue a second career in the
investment field.

But,
my ties to education have remained close through my affilliation
with the St. Christopher's school program as well as with
the Jevne Outdoor Academy for the past fourteen years.
Each
year, I look forward to working with the Summer Outdoor program
because it presents new experiences for our campers that will
be fun and rewarding for each of them. Our program gives young
people the opportunity to participate in activities that are
stimulating, exciting, rewarding, and educational. I strive
to provide each child with experiences that they will learn
from and treasure the rest of their lives.
We reach a diverse group of young people in our camp and it
is very rewarding to all of the staff to see these campers
succeed in our programs. I have always enjoyed the outdoors
and the varied activities our program provides. I have always
been active in sports and physical activities and working
with our campers keeps me thinking young as well.
